This photo reminds me of my cross country road trip. The endless open, like the ocean. The quiet thoughts while driving during sunset. I enjoyed being on the road. I had more of a feeling of ‘having everything’ than I do now. Going from place to place, no agenda, no destination. Some days I’d give anything to be out there again. Truly living life in such a way of simplicity.
Today I finally got my tattoo. I’ve been wanting to do this for almost a year now and was always too busy or didn’t have enough money. I got some money this year for Christmas to get it done and decided it was time. This quote comes from Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. It’s one of my most favorite books and one of my most favorite authors. It comes from a passage near the end of the book. It goes, “Stuff your eyes with wonder. Live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.” I love this quote and I love what it means. This world is absolutely incredible and it is there just waiting to be seen. I have always wanted to travel the world, to see as much as I can possibly see. I’m also a photographer so I’m always looking for the next great photo. And this seeing is not just with your eyes. Look at things a little harder and little deeper. Really take the world in. There is so much more to things than what you first see. I can’t put it any better than how Bradbury did. This world really is fantastic.
I just wanted to say thanks to Nick and Hannah for coming along with me. This was my first tattoo, so I was a little nervous. But it all went well and it didn’t hurt too bad. I didn’t pass out or anything. Also thanks to everyone who gave me money so I could get it.
The tattoo was done by Scott at Midwest Tattoo Co. in Indianapolis. It’s a great place and worth checking out.
This is Autumn and Kaleb, Dustin and Jennifer’s daughter and son. Autumn was the first grandchild in the family and the first niece. I had become an uncle and it was fun having new people in the family. I remember holding both of them in the hospitals, excited to have a niece and a nephew. It has been fun watching them grow up and it is incredible that they are this big already. They are both very smart kids. They are very ornery and funny (I wonder who they get if from), and they are great kids. I love the both of them and I can’t wait to see what they grow up to be.
This is Abbigail, my little sister. Me and Abbie have always been close. We’re best friends. We’ve grown up together and gone through everything together. I remember waiting in the hospital for her to be born, excited to have another sibling. She’s still my baby sister, even though she’s in high school now. We’ve had a lot of great times together and also have been through a lot of shit together. We certainly don’t always agree and boy, have we had some arguments, but we always make up a few minutes later and are back to having a good time. Abbie is wonderfully talented, hilarious, and incredibly smart young lady who is growing up to be strong and beautiful. She’s gonna go places and I’m excited to see what else we will go through. I love her and I’m so glad you are my sister.
This is Nick, my brother. Nick has always been a great brother to me. He always seems to be there for me when I need him the most. Oftentimes I don’t think I need to talk to him, but he’ll call me up and what he has to say is just right. Nick is hilarious and has always made me laugh with his stories and jokes. He’s a goofball. He’s caring, smart, hard-working, strong, sensitive, funny, loyal, a great brother, a great friend and a great man. I love him and I’m glad that he is my brother.
You all should know that this is Brandy, the other half of this crazy project and my sister. Brandy has been one of my biggest inspirations and supporters when it comes to photography and life. We’ve always been there for each other and we’ve been the best of buds ever since I was born. Like all siblings we’ve been mad at each other and hurt each other, but we always get through it. Brandy has had one of the roughest roads of anyone I know. But she has stayed strong and determined. That strength has helped others myself included. We’ve seen some pretty dark moments and gone through them for each other. It’s hard to put what I want to say about her into words. I love her very much though and she can be an amazing person.
This is Jennifer, Dustin’s wife. She is a good mother to Autumn and Kaleb, my niece and nephew. Her and Dustin brought the first new kids into the family and they were a great addition. While I do not know Jennifer as well as my siblings, she is a good mother and sister-in-law, who has done well raising her kids and helping her family
This is Dustin, my oldest brother. Dustin is one of a kind. He is hard working, great at what he does, smart, hilarious, straightforward, and a great father. He might be a little rough around the edges, but he is a good man and a good father who had done a lot for his kids. I am proud to call him my brother and I love him.
This is Cheyenne, my step-dad and husband to my mom. He is one of the hardest workers I know. He does everything right and to near perfection. He is quiet, intelligent, selfless, humble, caring, and down-to-earth. He will drop what ever he is doing to help someone out, and has done so for me on many occasions, including pulling my little Honda out of mud and snow. He is a good man and I am glad and grateful to have him in my life.
This is Michelle my step-mother and wife to my dad. She has been a great friend to me over the years, has been there for me when I needed someone neutral to talk to, helped me through problems, attempted to teach me how to play the piano (I gave up), introduced me to wonderful new grandparents, and has always made sure I have been well-fed. She is smart, talented, positive and very caring and I love her and I am glad she has been a part of my life.
