Chandler Day 364: Stuff Your Eyes With Wonder

tattooToday I finally got my tattoo. I’ve been wanting to do this for almost a year now and was always too busy or didn’t have enough money. I got some money this year for Christmas to get it done and decided it was time. This quote comes from Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. It’s one of my most favorite books and one of my most favorite authors. It comes from a passage near the end of the book. It goes, “Stuff your eyes with wonder. Live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.” I love this quote and I love what it means. This world is absolutely incredible and it is there just waiting to be seen. I have always wanted to travel the world, to see as much as I can possibly see. I’m also a photographer so I’m always looking for the next great photo. And this seeing is not just with your eyes. Look at things a little harder and little deeper. Really take the world in. There is so much more to things than what you first see. I can’t put it any better than how Bradbury did. This world really is fantastic.

P.S.

I just wanted to say thanks to Nick and Hannah for coming along with me. This was my first tattoo, so I was a little nervous. But it all went well and it didn’t hurt too bad. I didn’t pass out or anything. Also thanks to everyone who gave me money so I could get it.

P.P.S.

The tattoo was done by Scott at Midwest Tattoo Co. in Indianapolis. It’s a great place and worth checking out.

Chandler Day 215: I Saw Sharks and It Was a Good Day

DSC04119This photo is not from today, but it carries with it some things I feel I should say. I’m just gonna go for it. I think we get to choose how we look at the world. We do not get to choose what happens to us and what life throws at us. Life is rough and it is dirty and mean and cold. It can get very shitty very quick. But it is also beautiful and warm and full of love and passion and goodness and ecstatic joy. I have known some extreme lows and some great highs. And I have learned a lot. I’m learning that we get to control how we perceive things. And that is powerful. We get to choose whether we will be happy or angry or sad or miserable. We all have bad days. I get it. I’ve had some bad days. Sometimes we just need a bad day. We choose it. We choose to be self-centered and feel low. We just do it sometimes. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. But all those other days. We get to look at them differently. We get to look at the joys and the beauty of this insane world around us. I went to the zoo and there were annoying, bratty little kids everywhere and stupid parents and unpleasant people. I could have let it ruin it for me. But no, I saw seals and birds and orangutans and fucking sharks and it was fun and I had a good day. It is to easy to have a bad day. It is so easy to get into that low, pitiful state. I know, because I did it all the time. I still do sometimes. But I have learned to look at things differently. There is a quote I am learning to take more and more to heart. It will be my final thought on this subject. It goes, “Stuff your eyes with wonder. Live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.” Go see the world because, my god, we don’t have much time and I want to have more great days than bad ones at the end and I hope you do too.

Chandler Day 202: You’re Better Than Anything I Ever Dreamed Of

photo 4On our date today we found this sculpture that was made up of hundreds of little blue plastic squares like this one that each had something written on them. Some were stupid, many were cliche, a few were funny, some made you think and then this one made me stop and take a picture. It reads “You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” This quote is wonderfully true, at least for me. She really is better than dreams. And there have been so many times where we work to stay awake just so we can be together.

Brandy Day194: Bars, Scars & Empty Hearts

The quote reads, “The only bars around your heart are the ones you planted yourself. Bend the bars and break out of the prison you have built.” (Tyler Knott Gregson)
This particular quote stopped me. I’m guilty of this. A lot of us are. After putting yourself out there so many times, you eventually stop. Some of us will never bend the bars. Some of us will use them as safety only causing silent isolation. What a lonely place that will be for you.

Brandy Day178: Take It All In

As the sun sets on another day I remind myself tomorrow is not promised. Have you ever just sat and watched the sun set?! Taking it all in. Just look at this photo for awhile. The quiet scene. The nature. The growing ivy climbing up the tree. The movement of the water in rhythmic motion. The clouds rushing the sun into hiding. The sun bursting through the bark on the side of the tree. The sound of crickets chattering as night becomes alive.
‘How beautiful is it to live in a world where nothing lasts forever. We must learn to fall in love with the love inside us, only then every moment living will be worth dying for.’ (R.M. Drake)
