BrandyDay291: Pretty Sure Those Tracks Are Active

image

Knowing my love for trains and bridges, KC told me about these tracks down south awhile back.  Some of you may have heard the story of a couple crazy women who were up on the tracks (very illegal) and a train came.  This trestle is 500 feet long and 80 feet high.  14,000-ton Indiana Rail Road freight train traveling at 30 mph coming full force at you.  What do you do?  Last minute, split second, they laid down on the tracks with the train skimming over the top of them.  Once the engineer regained composure after thinking he just ran over two idiots, law enforcement was contacted and the women ended up facing criminal charges.  Though I’m sure the charges weren’t enough considering the hell they put the engineer through for that brief time.

I made it a point to show Alicia, it’s such an ‘awe-ing’ view, but one to be admired from the road…at a safe distance…where a train won’t make dinner out of you for some varmint.

It is illegal, it is trespassing and you will face charges if caught on any train tracks property of the CSX.  908 people were killed in the United
States by trespassing on railroads in 2013; 38 of those unnecessary deaths were in Indiana.

Chandler Day 360: Sugar Creek

DSC06957This is Sugar Creek, which runs right behind my mom’s new house. I finally got time to go explore it today. One of the coolest things I found was a beaver den, one of their dams, and a lot of signs of their activity. So that was really cool. The creek is really pretty and I will definitely be spending a lot of time there. It was a fun day of exploring there and a good day overall, despite some people being annoying. I even got to see my aunt who came down to visit, and I to relax after a stressful week and have a nice dinner.

Chandler Day 356: Christmas at the Zoo

zooTonight I went with Hannah, Hillary and Josh to Christmas at the Zoo. I hadn’t ever been so it was really cool to go see. The lights were beautiful and it was impressive how many of them there were. The whole zoo was lit up and decorated. I had a lot of fun and I was with great people. It’s definitely something I’d do again.

Chandler Day 353: Look at the Lights

DSC00092While this picture is an old photo, it helps put me in the mood for Christmas. I absolutely love the lights this time of year. Everything is lit up so beautifully, especially when people use white lights. These lights were draped along our old fence line and they happened to be snow covered when I took the photo. They made for a perfect winter scene.

Chandler Day 352: Long-Forgotten Pathways

DSC00326Indiana is called the Crossroads of America. Highways and railways cut through the state and can be found everywhere. Railways have declined over the years and now that state is left with this. Tall embankments where railroads once were. Now they are paths through woods with the occasional reminder that machines once passed through. Railroad ties, bits of coal, markers, broken up bridges, even graves, all mark these forgotten railways.

Chandler Day 351: Another Favorite

DSC00293It has been kind of fun looking through my old photos as I begin to wrap up this project. I found this one tonight and I think this particular house has shown up before in these posts. But the house is a favorite and if you ask why, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. I think it might be the location of it, as it’s on a favorite road of mine and the area is pretty. I have never been in this house and it holds a certain mystery to it. I don’t know if I’ll ever go inside it, but the place is pretty and it will always be a favorite.

Chandler Day 348: Wishing for Snow

DSC00214So the weather has not been the greatest this December. It hasn’t been that cold, but it has been very gloomy and rainy. It certainly isn’t the best Christmas weather. But I came across this photo that I took last summer. It was one of the first photos with my new camera. The snow that day was beautiful. Hopefully we will get some of this weather soon.
