Chandler Day 275: Formal Analysis

photo-10This week we assigned an essay for Art History. We had to choose five works art from five different time periods, those being Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance, 18th-19th Century, and Contemporary/Modern. We then had to do a formal analysis of the pieces. I liked this project. Formally analyzing a work of art forces you to really look at the piece and everything that makes up the work. You pay attention to every little detail and instead of focusing on the subject, you focus on lines, lighting, brushwork, shape, and materials. You focus on the emotions that piece portrays and how you connect to it. It helps you to understand how to look at art. It’s a good practice to know.

Chandler Day 205: Our Next Project

photo-6Tonight I went and picked up the start of what will be our next project. It’s a mannequin that I picked up from a store that was closing. We figured we could do something with it and hopefully by the time we’re done with it we will have made into some sort of art. All I know is it should be pretty fun.

Chandler Day 202: You’re Better Than Anything I Ever Dreamed Of

photo 4On our date today we found this sculpture that was made up of hundreds of little blue plastic squares like this one that each had something written on them. Some were stupid, many were cliche, a few were funny, some made you think and then this one made me stop and take a picture. It reads “You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” This quote is wonderfully true, at least for me. She really is better than dreams. And there have been so many times where we work to stay awake just so we can be together.
