“It’s all about the light”. That’s Professor Foley’s favorite thing to say. But it really is. Light is a photographer’s medium. He is always talking about good light and bad light, harsh light, soft light and learning to work with it. Whenever we shoot outside he says “God is our gaffer.” A gaffer is a person that sets up all the lighting on a set. And our assignment was take photos where we controlled the light. And I have to say, I think the light turned out well with this one.
Oliver thought I should wake up at 6am today. I thought Oliver was crazy and with his persistence I was up and putting shoes on at 630. I was out the door, driving in the warm morning air. The sky started to lighten and the fog that had set in hours before, began to lift from its short slumber. The country promised such soft contrast.
Thank you for your puppy persistence Oliver, sunrise was stunning.
Ignited to provide light, sometimes heat & historically used as a method to keep time. The earliest candles originated in China around 200 BC.
I almost always have a candle burning while at home. To me it sets a soft, relaxing atmosphere. Watching the flame dance sometimes a contained area. Trying to escape from the heat that it produces itself. Running from something its forever attached to.
